Humidor Care

[All I need is water to make my humidor work.]

All humidors require periodic care and maintenance in order to insure good
and proper care of your treasured cigars.

The single biggest mistake made is to assume that you merely add water about
once a month and forget it. Wrong!!!!

Answer this simple question:
If you were to put a hygrometer (a device that measures humidity)

into a Jiffy bag and add a wet cloth, then seal the bag up, what do you think
the device would eventually read as far as humidity level?

If you answered 95-100%, you were correct.

This is exactly what would happen with your cigar humidor eventually causing your
cigars to become over humidified.

This is why no matter what brand of humidor you purchase, you must also
use a controlling agent along with the distilled water you add periodically.

There are many products sold which performs
the function of limiting humidity inside a humidor to 65-75%, ideal for cigar
humidification.

Always use distilled water and  a humidity controlling agent to prevent over-humidification..
Always follow the manufacturers directions when using a controlling agent.

***Using tap or mineral water will shorten the life of your humidifier.***

[ To wet or not to wet the interior of a new humidor.]

Savinelli humidors DO NOT require that you moisten the interior walls
prior to use of the humidor. Our humidors are ready to go when you
purchase one. So, even if the retailer tells you to moisten the inside
of a Savinelli humidor, disregard his or her advise. Always read the
manufacturer's instructions and follow them regardless of what any
one tells you. The manufacturer knows best.

[Exterior care]

Always treat your humidor as if it cost you a couple of thousand dollars.
We have found that a gentle cleaning with a Windex type window cleaning
solution and a soft cloth works very well removing finger prints while not
affecting the finish.
Even plain water with a drop of Ivory liquid dish soap would probably do
the trick depending on how soiled the exterior of the humidor has become.
The bottom line here is to treat the finish gently.

You have made an investment (regardless of brand purchased) in your cigar
humidor and treated properly, it will provide you with years of reliable
service and satisfaction keeping your cigars perfectly humidified.

Keep in mind also that eventually you will need to change out the
humidification devices as they will no longer accept a full charge
of distilled water. Savinelli offers some of the best humidifiers
money can buy in both round and rectangular size for 50 to 100
cigar humidors.
